Battery fires are difficult to extinguish. The only way to stop the thermal runaway propagation inside the battery is to cool down the cells so that the heat transfer does not spread the thermal runaway from cell to cell. The safest method for cooling the battery is by spraying water and the easiest way to do this is by using the OFFEXT SKUNK EV arm nozzle. Take a look at the video from a simulator training.
Many car manufacturers recommend exterior cooling for fighting an EV battery fire. There are solutions that pierce the battery cover and inject water into the battery. This, however, increases the probability of further ignitions later on. Some manufacturers prohibit submerging the battery for the same reason.
